Second day, we decided to create our own tour and headed out on an Indian Reservation near the campground. It was pretty deserted. We encountered a pickup on a side trail buried in fine sand. The young Indian man ran to the road with prayer folded hands shouting "Please, please, please." We turned around and drove up the trail to pull him out, all the while hoping it wasn't some kind of scam. There were two guys. They were very grateful.

Going up, we encountered a large 18-wheeler semi on the way down.
Would have loved to see him negotiate the switchbacks.

For some reason, the Valley of the Gods is not really advertised. Maybe because it's a FREE 17 mile loop managed by the Bureau of Land Management. Many of the geological monuments in the Valley were named, but we named some of our own:
